Physicochemical properties:
The pure product is a white crystalline solid with a faint mint-like odor. It has a melting point of 175°C. It is readily soluble in water, sparingly soluble in methanol and ethanol, and poorly soluble in chloroform, acetone, and benzene. It decomposes easily under acidic conditions.

Functional characteristics:
Fosamine-ammonium is primarily absorbed through stems and leaves, and its specific effects are closely related to the application concentration. At low concentrations, it inhibits the activity of peroxidase and indoleacetic acid (IAA) oxidase, thereby reducing auxin degradation and increasing auxin accumulation; this promotes crop growth, improves fruit set, and increases yield. At higher concentrations, it enhances the activity of peroxidase and IAA oxidase, accelerates auxin breakdown, and inhibits plant growth, resulting in effects such as dwarfing and pruning. At even higher concentrations, it inhibits photophosphorylation during photosynthesis, blocking the formation of biological energy and leading to crop death; thus, it can be used as a herbicide. It is effective for controlling unwanted shrubs and climbing plants (such as those in the Convolvulaceae family) in forests. Additionally, fosamine-ammonium inhibits the biosynthesis of endogenous ethylene in plants, preventing premature senescence of foliage and branches; it is frequently used for the preservation of cut flowers.
