Choline chloride significantly increases chlorophyll levels in crop leaves and enhances photosynthetic efficiency, thereby facilitating the production and translocation of greater quantities of nutrients to the storage roots and tubers. It triggers the early germination of root primordia, accelerates the enlargement of roots and tubers, and increases the proportion of large and medium-sized roots and tubers.

CAS No.: 67-48-1
Molecular Formula: C5H4ClNO
Relative Molecular Mass: 139.62
Toxicity: Low toxicity
Main Formulations: 98% Choline Chloride Technical Powder; 30%, 60%, and 75% Choline Chloride Aqueous Solutions

Physicochemical Properties

The technical material appears as white crystals with a melting point of 240°C. It is readily soluble in water and alcohols; its aqueous solution is nearly neutral. It is insoluble in ethers, petroleum ether, benzene, and carbon disulfide. It possesses a faint fishy odor and a salty-bitter taste; it is highly hygroscopic and unstable in alkaline solutions. Upon entering the soil, it is easily decomposed by microorganisms and causes no environmental pollution.

Functional Characteristics

Choline chloride can be absorbed by plants through their stems, leaves, and roots, and is subsequently rapidly translocated to the sites of action. It significantly increases the content of chlorophyll, soluble proteins, and carbohydrates in plant leaves. Furthermore, it enhances the activity of superoxide dismutase, boosts leaf photosynthetic efficiency, inhibits photorespiration in C3 plants, and promotes root system development. Consequently, it facilitates the maximum possible accumulation of photosynthetic products within tubers and fleshy roots, thereby increasing crop yield and improving quality.

Precautions

① Its history of application as a plant growth regulator is relatively short; therefore, the associated application techniques are still undergoing refinement.
② Do not mix with alkaline agents.
