Chemical control of bolting in beetroot
Application of Regulators for the Chemical Control of Bolting in Beetroot
Beet is a biennial crop, and bolting and flowering often occur in the first year of vegetative growth, resulting in a decrease in tuber yield and sugar content. Inhibiting bolting has important production significance; at the same time, promoting bolting is of great significance for shortening the breeding period of sugar beet.
Gibberellic acid
The effective agent for inducing bolting was gibberellic acid, followed by gibberellic acid + abscisic acid (GA3 + ABA) 50 mg/L + 20 mg/L (5:2). The optimum concentration of gibberellic acid required for different cultivars was different. "Tianyan No. 7" was 40 mg/L, and "Tianyan No. 8" with higher bolting resistance was 45 mg/L.
Abscisic acid
The seedling growth point was dripped with 20mg/L abscisic acid solution continuously for 5 days, which effectively inhibited the bolting.
Maleic hydrazide
The seedling growth point was dripped with 350mg/L maleic hydrazide solution continuously for 5 days to effectively inhibit the bolting.
