Spraying 4000 mg/L, 2000 mg/L, 1000 mg/L, 500 mg/L and 400 mg/L ethephon at the jointing stage respectively showed that the dwarfing effect on sorghum plants at the heading stage was higher than that of the water control. 29.32%, 34.58%, 21.80%, 21.8%%, 2.18%, the dwarfing effect on sorghum plants at the mature stage was 21.07%, 22.16%, 19.77%, 18.63%, and 12.11% higher than that of the clear water control, respectively. Among them, the treatment with the concentration of 2000 mg/L was the best.
On sorghum, the dwarfing effect of spraying ethephon is more significant than that of chlorophyll, which can reduce the height of the center of gravity, improve the bending resistance of the stem, and enhance the mechanical strength of the stem, thereby enhancing the bending resistance and lodging resistance of the plant.However, there was little difference in improving sorghum photosynthetic index, chlorophyll content, and grain quality.
