Application of Plant Growth Regulators for Enhancing Germination and Yield in Chinese Chives

Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA)
Soaking seeds in a 25 mg/L solution of indole-3-acetic acid for 6 hours can effectively promote seed germination and seedling growth.
Triacontanol
In early spring, when the chives first emerge from the soil (a stage known as "blood sprouts"), apply a root drench treatment using a 0.5 mg/L triacontanol solution at a rate of 100 liters per *mu*. Once the chives have grown to a height of 6–7 cm, follow up with a foliar spray treatment using the same 0.5 mg/L triacontanol solution, applied at a rate of 50 liters per *mu*. This accelerates the growth of the chives, results in tender, succulent tissue, and enhances their culinary value. According to trials conducted in Hangzhou, treating Chinese chives with triacontanol can increase yields by up to 20%.
Gibberellic acid (GA3)
When the plants reach a height of 10 cm—or 3 days after harvesting—spraying them with a 20 mg/L gibberellic acid solution can increase yields by over 15%. Alternatively, this treatment can be applied approximately 15 days prior to harvest—or when the chives are about 20 cm tall—using a 10 mg/L gibberellic acid spray combined with a urea-ammonium solution applied at a rate of 0.5 kg per *mu*; this approach can boost yields by approximately 18%.
Uniconazole
Soaking seeds in a 5 mg/L uniconazole solution for 12 hours promotes the development of robust seedlings and contributes to a subsequent yield increase of 11.5% to 14.7%.
DA-6 + Ethephon
After April, diluting a 27.5% formulation of DA-6 (Diethyl aminoethyl hexanoate) + Ethephon at a ratio of 1:150 to 1:300 can effectively control excessive vegetative growth in Chinese chives. This treatment results in sturdier stems and broader, thicker leaves, thereby enhancing the plants' resistance to lodging (falling over). After August, applying a foliar spray at the same concentration promotes the translocation and storage of nutrients within the root system, thereby ensuring a high-yield harvest in the following year.
