Promoting Rooting in Cuttings
Indole-3-butyric acid (IBA)
Chrysanthemums are primarily propagated via cuttings. IBA induces the formation of root primordia and promotes cell division and expansion, thereby facilitating the development of adventitious roots in cuttings. Select healthy, high-quality stock plants and harvest their tender shoots for use as cuttings. Cuttings should be robust, of medium thickness, and approximately 8 cm long, featuring a "two-leaf, one-bud" configuration (two functional leaves and one growing point). When treating cuttings with IBA alone, a concentration of 500 mg/L yields the best rooting results.
Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA)
NAA promotes rooting in cuttings by stimulating the dedifferentiation of parenchyma cells at the base of the cutting; this restores the cells' ability to divide and form callus tissue, subsequently leading to the growth of adventitious roots. Treating tender chrysanthemum stems with NAA solutions ranging from 1000 to 2000 mg/L is effective; specifically, a concentration of 1500 mg/L yields the best results for both stem segments and basal shoots. Additionally, when using tender stems as cuttings, treatment with NAA powder is preferable, with a concentration of 2000 mg/L providing the optimal effect.
Combination of NAA (sodium salt) and IBA
Both IBA and NAA (sodium salt) are plant growth regulators that promote rooting in cuttings. IBA facilitates both root elongation and an increase in the number of roots, whereas NAA (sodium salt) primarily enhances root length with less significant impact on root count; however, the two exhibit a notable synergistic effect when used together. The optimal combinations for promoting rooting are 100 mg/L IBA + 500 mg/L NAA and 500 mg/L IBA + 100 mg/L NAA.
