Application of Plant Growth Regulators to Promote Orchid Seed Germination
NAA and 6-BA
Seeds of Chinese orchids—such as *Cymbidium goeringii* (Spring Orchid) and *Cymbidium kanran* (Cold-hardy Orchid)—are minute and possess thick seed coat cell walls covered by a water- and air-impermeable, membrane-like substance. Their embryos are underdeveloped, spherical structures containing only esters as stored nutrients; consequently, they are difficult to germinate via conventional sowing methods and require sterile conditions and a suitable culture medium to sprout. Adding 5 mg/L NAA and 1 mg/L 6-BA to the sowing medium can promote rapid seed germination.
