What is Triacontanol, and on Which Crops Can It Be Applied?

Mar 16,2026

Triacontanol (C30H62O; CAS: 593-50-0) is a naturally occurring plant growth regulator—specifically, a saturated long-chain alcohol. It promotes germination, root development, stem and leaf growth, and flowering; accelerates crop maturation; increases fruit-setting rates; enhances resistance to cold and drought; boosts yields; and improves product quality. It exhibits growth-promoting activity across a wide variety of plant species.

Crops for Triacontanol Application

1. Physicochemical Properties and Safety

Physical Appearance: The pure product consists of white, flaky crystals. It is sparingly soluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and chloroform.

Chemical Stability: It possesses excellent thermal stability and can be stored for extended periods at room temperature.

Safety Assessment: It is completely non-toxic to humans, livestock, and beneficial organisms (such as honeybees). It poses no risk of environmental residue accumulation and aligns fully with the principles of modern green agriculture.

Specifications: Available as 90% TC (Technical Grade) and 1.5% EP (Emulsifiable Powder/Emulsion).

2. Wide-Ranging Applications

Triacontanol acts rapidly and has an extremely broad scope of application. It typically increases crop yields by more than 10%, exerting a significant growth-promoting effect on plants even at very low concentrations. When used as a foliar nutrient spray for crops, a mere 1 mg dosage can boost the yield of crops planted across 0.1 hectares by 10% to 40%. For instance, spraying tea buds with a triacontanol solution at a concentration of 0.5 mg/kg during the "one-leaf" stage can result in a yield increase of approximately 20%.

Field Crops (Grains & Oilseeds): Wheat, corn, sorghum, soybeans, peanuts, sweet potatoes, etc.—significantly increases the thousand-grain weight.

Commercial Vegetables: Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, beets, etc.—facilitates uniform fruit development and reduces the incidence of fruit malformation.

Fruit Trees & Orchards: Citrus, apples, lychees, grapes, watermelons, etc.—promotes flower bud differentiation and enhances the fruit-setting rate.

Specialty Crops: Tobacco, tea, medicinal herbs, edible fungi (oyster mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms), and aquatic crops (kelp, nori/seaweed).

Floriculture and Landscaping: Roses, orchids, chrysanthemums, and various landscaping nursery stock—enhancing leaf color for a deeper green and extending the flowering period.
