Cotton Case
Cotton Cultivation Area and Distribution
The entire growth cycle of cotton can be divided into five critical stages, beginning with sowing and continuing through to final harvest. Each phase within this cycle requires close attention and careful management to ensure healthy and efficient cotton growth. Next, we will explore the characteristics and key management points of these five stages in detail.

Cotton Seedling Strengthening Program
Although cotton germinates best in high temperatures, its seedling growth should not be exposed to excessively high temperatures. To ensure healthy development of cotton seedlings, the soil temperature at a depth of 5 cm must be stable during sowing, a condition typically met at 14°C. Under natural conditions, cotton sowing in the Yellow River basin is usually scheduled for mid-April, while sowing in the Yangtze River basin can begin as early as April. while Xinjiang's cotton-growing regions are best suited for sowing between April 15th and April 25th. Post-sowing emergence times vary by region: typically 10 to 15 days in the Yellow River Basin, 7 to 10 days in the Yangtze River Basin, and approximately 15 days in Xinjiang's cotton areas. Additionally, cotton seeds require ample oxygen for germination, so excessively moist soil may cause seed rot.

The phenological stages of potatoes can be divided into five periods: sprouting stage, seedling stage, tuber formation stage, tuber enlargement stage, and maturity stage. These stages typically last 20–30 days for sprouting, 15–20 days for seedling growth, 25–30 days for tuber formation, 30–50 days for tuber enlargement, and 10–20 days for maturity.

The optimal temperature during sowing is crucial for cotton germination, with higher temperatures accelerating the process. However, excessive heat hinders early seedling growth, necessitating temperature control around 14°C at a 5-centimeter soil depth. Cotton exhibits a preference for warmer conditions, with a minimum germination threshold of 10.5°C, an optimal range of 28-30°C, and a maximum germination temperature of 40-45°C. Within the optimal temperature range, both germination speed and success rate significantly improve. For instance, germination takes approximately 11 days at 12°C, 7 days at 13°C, and only 2 days at 16°C. Under high temperatures of 35°C, cotton seeds can sprout within just 8 hours.
