Apricot Tree Vigor Management & Growth Control
Application of Plant Growth Regulators for Vigor Management and Growth Control in Apricot Trees
Paclobutrazol
For mature apricot trees of bearing age that are not fruiting, as well as young, vigorously growing trees, a 300-fold or 200-fold dilution of 15% paclobutrazol can be sprayed 2–3 times—depending on the need to control vigor—between late July and early September. Applications should be spaced 15–20 days apart; this treatment effectively curbs excessive growth and promotes flowering. Additionally, a foliar spray of 1,000 mg/L paclobutrazol applied between late May and early June can effectively inhibit new shoot growth and promote flower bud differentiation.
