Lufenuron is a latest-generation benzoylurea insecticide, mainly used to control lepidopteran pests such as those on fruit trees and cotton plants. It can also be used to control piercing-sucking insects. Studies have shown that lufenuron has significant antifeedant activity against bollworm larvae. Lufenuron treatment of diamondback moths can significantly reduce egg hatching rate, survival rate, egg production, and adult lifespan, inhibiting population growth.

Lufenuron controls lepidopteran pests

Mechanism of Action: 

Lufenuron's insecticidal mechanism works by inhibiting the formation of chitin synthase in larvae, interfering with chitin deposition in the epidermis, leading to the insect's inability to molt and metamorphose normally, resulting in death.

Compound dosage form

A 1:1 combination of lufenuron and tebufenozide showed a co-toxicity coefficient of 134.03 for the beet armyworm. Lufenuron also exhibits synergistic effects when combined with various other insecticides such as thiamethoxam, azoxystrobin, tebufenozide, and imidacloprid on a variety of insects.

Disadvantages of Lufenuron

1. Scope of Insect Control

While lufenuron is effective against eggs and larvae, its effectiveness against older larvae is relatively low. Therefore, if there are many older larvae, it is recommended to use it in combination with other pesticides, such as chlorfenapyr. Applying the pesticide during the peak hatching period of the pests and the peak period of the young larvae can control the eggs simultaneously, effectively reducing the pest population and thus extending the residual effect.

2. Low Speed ​​of Action

Lufenuron generally takes 3-5 days to reach its peak insecticidal effect after application. Therefore, it is necessary to combine it with some fast-acting pesticides, such as abamectin.

Applicable Crops

Lufenuron has good safety and can be widely used on various fruit trees such as apples, pears, grapes, and peaches. It can also be used on vegetable crops such as tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, cucumbers, watermelons, potatoes, garlic, and green onions. Furthermore, it can be used on various agricultural crops, medicinal herbs, flowers, and many other crops.

Application Methods

1. For controlling diamondback moth, cabbage worm, and other pests, use 4-5 grams/acre of 44.4% abamectin·lufenuron water-dispersible granules, diluted in 30 kg of water, and spray evenly. It has a good killing effect on both larvae and eggs.

2. For controlling bollworm, tobacco budworm, beet armyworm, and other pests, use 20-25 ml of 24% chlorfenapyr·lufenuron suspension, diluted in 30 kg of water, and spray evenly. It has a good control effect on both eggs and larvae, with a residual effect lasting up to 25 days.

3. Lufenuron in combination. Lufenuron has a relatively low rate of action, generally reaching its peak insecticidal effect 3-5 days after application. It is recommended to mix or combine it with some fast-acting agents, such as lufenuron·chlorfenapyr, abamectin·lufenuron, or abamectin·lufenuron.

Safety

Lufenuron is a novel insecticide that combines stomach poison and contact action, and also has good ovicidal effects; it has good selectivity for predatory insects and is non-toxic to most beneficial adult insects; it is non-toxic to bees, birds and mammals, and is safe for users and crops.
