Uses

Methomyl is a broad-spectrum, systemic insecticide that acts via contact and stomach toxicity to control pests such as aphids and moths. It is suitable for protecting a wide range of crops—including cotton, tobacco, fruit trees, and vegetables—against various pests.

 

Properties

Solubility: water 5.8% (w/w), methanol 100% (w/w), ethanol 142% (w/w), isopropanol 22% (w/w), acetone 73% (w/w). 

It decomposes readily in alkaline media, at high temperatures, or upon exposure to sunlight.
- Strong Irritant: Methomyl can irritate the eyes and skin; flush immediately with water following any contact.
- Ingestion and Inhalation Risks: Methomyl must be kept away from food and water sources; avoid direct inhalation.
- Environmental Impact: Methomyl is harmful to aquatic organisms and bees; care must be taken during use to prevent environmental contamination.
