Physicochemical properties
Pendimethalin TC is an orange-yellow crystalline solid; melting point 54–56°C; vapor pressure (25°C) <4.0 mPa; solubility in water 0.3 mg/L (20°C); solubility in organic solvents (g/L, 26°C): acetone 700, xylene 628, corn oil 148, heptane 138, isopropanol 77. Stable during storage between 5°C and 130°C; DT50 in water <21 days; stable under acidic and alkaline conditions; DT50 in soil 30–90 days; slowly decomposes under light exposure.
Toxicity: Low toxicity
Main formulations: 90% and 95% technical grade; 330 g/L emulsifiable concentrate (EC); 450 g/L micro-encapsulated suspension (CS)
Functional characteristics
Pendimethalin is a selective pre-emergence and post-emergence soil-applied herbicide for dry-land crops. It acts by binding to tubulin after the herbicide is absorbed by the shoots, stems, and roots of weeds during seed germination. In crops such as tobacco, bananas, and sweet potatoes, it inhibits the division and elongation of meristematic cells, thereby achieving growth-regulating effects.
