Zeatin

Zeatin functions to promote cell division, stimulate lateral bud development, delay leaf senescence, and preserve the freshness of vegetables during storage. The roots serve as a primary site for zeatin synthesis; it is also produced in young leaves, buds, developing fruits, and developing seeds.

CAS No.: 1637-39-4
Molecular Formula: C10H13N5O
Relative Molecular Mass: 219.24
Toxicity: Slightly toxic
Main Formulations: 90% and 98% Zeatin Technical Powder; 0.5% Zeatin Mother Powder; 0.00038% and 0.0008% Zeatin Aqueous Solution.

Physicochemical Properties

Pure Zeatin has a melting point of 209–213°C. It is soluble in methanol and ethanol but insoluble in water and acetone. It remains stable when stored under normal room temperature conditions.

Functional Characteristics

Zeatin is a cytokinin derived from adenine. Classified as a naturally sourced plant growth regulator, it possesses high biological activity. It promotes plant cell division, inhibits the degradation of chlorophyll and proteins, slows down respiration rates, delays plant senescence, and enhances the plant's resistance to disease, aging, and cold temperatures. Because it was first isolated from maize (corn) seeds, it is also commonly referred to as "Zeatin."

Application Techniques

Tomatoes
Apply a foliar spray of Zeatin solution at a concentration of 0.003–0.016 mg/L. Spray at least three times—specifically 7 days before flowering, during the flowering period, and 7 days after flowering—with 10-day intervals between applications. This treatment effectively accelerates tomato fruit enlargement, increases the fruit setting rate, and boosts yields by 6.59% to 18.75%. Additionally, it reduces the titratable acidity content in the fruit while increasing Vitamin C levels, thereby improving overall crop quality.
Citrus
A foliar spray solution at a concentration of 0.0033–0.005 mg/L can be used to regulate growth. Apply a uniform spray to the stems and foliage three times: during the initial flowering stage, the young fruit stage, and the fruit enlargement stage. This treatment offers multiple benefits, including promoting growth, accelerating maturation, preserving flowers and fruits, increasing yields, and improving fruit quality.

Tea
Spraying with a solution of 0.0033–0.005 mg/L regulates growth, promotes chlorophyll formation, enhances crop photosynthesis, and increases the number of new shoots.
Rice
Treating seeds by soaking them in a 0.0067–0.01 mg/L solution for 36 hours—followed by a single spray application of a 0.0017 mg/L solution during the seedling, tillering (regreening), booting, and grain-filling stages—enhances plant vigor, promotes grain setting, and increases yield.
Soybean
Applying three spray treatments with a 0.001–0.0012 mg/L solution during the growing season promotes chlorophyll formation and enhances crop photosynthesis; this improves crop quality, increases protein content, and enhances the plant's disease resistance.
Maize (Corn)
Treating seeds by soaking them in a 0.0067–0.01 mg/L solution for 12–24 hours—followed by a single spray application of a 0.0017 mg/L solution during both the jointing and tasseling (whorl) stages—promotes chlorophyll formation and enhances crop photosynthesis; this improves crop quality, increases protein content, and enhances the plant's disease resistance.
Cotton
Applying four spray treatments with a 0.011–0.016 mg/L solution during the initial flowering stage, at intervals of 10–14 days, helps promote increased yields.
Cucumber
Applying 2–3 spray treatments with a 0.02–0.025 mg/L solution during the seedling stage promotes vigorous plant growth, results in deep green foliage, and enhances disease resistance.

Cabbage
During the rosette stage of cabbage, foliar application of 0.001–0.0012 mg/L of Hydroxyadenine three times—at intervals of 7 to 10 days—can increase the fresh weight per plant and accelerate the growth rate of the cabbage heads, resulting in a significant increase in yield.
Grapes
By uniformly spraying grape clusters with 0.025–0.04 mg/L of Hydroxyadenine at 5 days before flowering, 3 days after flowering, and 10 days after flowering, the sugar content of the fruit can be increased while the organic acid content is reduced, thereby improving overall fruit quality.
Ginseng
Soaking ginseng seeds in a 0.025 mg/L solution for 48 hours can promote earlier seed germination.
Shiitake Mushrooms
Applying 0.001 mg/L of Hydroxyadenine during the pinhead stage (budding stage) of Shiitake mushrooms can increase the yield of the fruiting bodies.
