Strigolactones, GR24 99%TC|Plant Growth Regulator

Strigolactones are carotenoid derivatives produced in plant roots. They inhibit plant branching and lateral bud growth; together with auxins and cytokinins, they maintain plant architecture and coordinate the growth of the plant's above-ground and underground parts.

Functional Characteristics

Strigolactones are a collective term for certain natural strigol-type compounds and their synthetic analogs. They are sesquiterpene compounds based on isoprenoid units and are carotenoid derivatives produced in plant roots. They inhibit plant branching and lateral bud growth; together with auxins and cytokinins, they maintain plant architecture and coordinate the growth of above-ground and below-ground plant parts.

Agricultural Application of Strigolactones (GR24)

Non-heading Chinese cabbage

When non-heading Chinese cabbage has developed 11–12 true leaves and some axillary buds have begun to grow, treating the plants with a solution containing 0.45–1.35 mg/L of the chemical (added to the nutrient solution) for 3–12 hours can directly inhibit the germination and elongation of axillary buds. It can also indirectly inhibit axillary bud germination and elongation by regulating signals related to endogenous auxins and cytokinins, as well as the expression of genes associated with tillering or branching.

Scarlet Sage

For Salvia splendens (scarlet sage), when seedlings have developed two pairs of true leaves (with lateral buds already sprouted), applying a solution at concentrations of 0.3–9 mg/L to the lateral buds in the leaf axils of the first to third stem nodes promotes plant height and internode length—with the promoting effect intensifying as the concentration increases—while inhibiting lateral branch elongation, an effect that also becomes more pronounced at higher concentrations.

Precautions

① It degrades easily in alkaline soil and is susceptible to loss caused by microbial activity.
② The effects of strigolactones vary depending on the crop variety.
