Application of Plant Growth Regulators to Inhibit Excessive Vegetative Growth in Cherry Trees

Prohexadione-calcium
When new cherry shoots reach a length of 2.5–7 cm, apply the product to the entire tree or the canopy. Use a concentration of 300–600 mg/L for trees with high vigor and 125–250 mg/L for those with moderate vigor (do not use on trees with low vigor). Depending on actual needs, a second application may be made after 14 days (maximum of two applications). This treatment significantly inhibits excessive shoot growth, promotes fruit set, increases light exposure to the fruit, improves fruit quality, and boosts yield.
Paclobutrazol
Excessive shoot growth can be controlled via soil application or foliar spraying. Soil application is generally performed between mid-March and mid-May; for young, vigorous trees, apply 2–3 g of 15% paclobutrazol wettable powder per tree—based on canopy size—followed by light irrigation. For foliar application, spray the foliage with a 500 mg/L paclobutrazol solution when new shoots reach approximately 15 cm in length; a second application may be made after an interval of 20–30 days, depending on growth vigor.
