Daffodil Flowering Time & Bloom Schedule
Application of Plant Growth Regulators During the Daffodil Flowering and Bloom Stages
Chlormequat
Irrigating daffodil bulbs three times with an 800 mg/L chlormequat solution significantly inhibits root and leaf growth. This reduces nutrient consumption, extends the flowering period, improves flower quality, and enhances ornamental value.
Ethephon
For potted daffodils, irrigating the soil three consecutive times with a 1,000–2,000 mg/L ethephon solution can induce earlier flowering. Additionally, since normally cultivated daffodils often produce few flower stalks, treatment with plant growth regulators can increase the number of stalks and improve overall quality. The specific treatment method is as follows: select daffodil bulbs that have been cultivated for three years and stack them in a sealed warehouse; pile rice husks or rice bran in the warehouse, sprinkle ethephon onto the material, and ignite it, causing the ethephon to decompose and release ethylene gas. During the process, care must be taken to use only a smoldering heat source—producing smoke but no visible flame—and to ensure adequate airflow within the storage chamber. Treated narcissus bulbs exhibit enhanced flower bud differentiation, resulting in a greater number of flower stalks.
