Paclobutrazol
Although daffodils are easy to cultivate, they are prone to leggy growth when kept indoors; flower stalks elongate excessively, resulting in relatively small flowers and a disproportionate appearance. Paclobutrazol inhibits the height of daffodil leaves and flower stalks; its use results in deep green, thick leaves and sturdy flower stalks. Soaking bulbs in a 20–40 mg/L paclobutrazol solution for 7 days effectively reduces plant height. However, treatment with concentrations exceeding 50 mg/L can cause phytotoxicity, such as leaf curling and deformity.
Ethephon
When the daffodil stems reach a length of 15 cm, drenching the soil with a 240 mg/L ethephon solution can reduce stem and leaf length, resulting in a well-proportioned plant shape and an extended flowering period.
